Transportation
in Bangkok

Bangkok has chronic traffic congestion.  This is a big problem for time-limited tourists.  As a solution, I want to get a grasp of transportation infrastructure and enjoy sightseeing efficiently.

Boat

Boat

It is a transportation method without traffic jams.  Knowing the type of ship and the operating time will make it easier to move within a certain city.  Operating hours vary depending on the type of ship.

Khlong saen saep express boat

Operates a canal that flows from east to west in Bangkok.  It is possible to move from the tourist area near Khao San Road to Pratunam without traffic jam.  Fares are low price because it is a transportation for local residents.  It is crowded during the commuting hours, morning and evening.

Chaophraya Express Boat

It runs north and south along the Chao Phraya River.  Both ends of the pier are Pakkret in the north and Ratburana in the south.  For sightseeing, it is convenient to move between the Grand Palace and the Thaksin Bridge where the BTS station is located.  The scenery and temples seen from on the water are worth a visit.

Boat for across Chaophraya

It travels back and forth on both banks of the Taiga Chao Phraya River.  In the part without the bridge it is a valuable transportation.  It is operated on relatively many piers.  For sightseeing purposes, it is convenient to move between Grand Palace and Thonburi.

Bus terminal

Bus terminal

A departure and arrival point for long-distance buses and minivans that connect Bangkok with local cities.  Due to the large number of cars and destinations, it is used not only by Thais but also by foreign travelers.  Partly, a public bus terminal is operating next there.

BRT
(Bus Rapid Transport)

BRT

Bus high speed transportation system.  Between 12 stations with a total length of about 16 km.  Both the starting station and the ending station are connected to the BTS Skytrain Silom Line.  Since it runs on a dedicated lane and traffic is given priority at the intersection with a special signal, it is possible to operate on time without getting caught in traffic congestion.  The fees are not collected on the bus.  Ticket vending machines and ticket gates are installed at the stops.  Unfortunately there are no famous tourist spots along the line.

MRT

MRT
(Mass Rapid Transit)

The first subway in Thailand, which opened in 2004.  Some stations are in contact with BTS.  Operating hours are 6:00-24:00.  Convenience increased as the extension work progressed and the route became circular.
